Two merchant ships were struck by drones off Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, and one sank, the BBC reports. CNN says 11 sailors are missing. Border police rescued the full crew of the second vessel, the Maltese-flagged, Ukrainian-owned Chelsea 3, and brought them to the port of Varna.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev summoned the Russian ambassador and briefed NATO and the European Union. Ukraine accused Russia of the attacks. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the Black Sea 'another front of escalation' and said it was unacceptable. Russia's military has not publicly commented, the BBC reported.
Moscow says it targets ships carrying weapons to Ukraine. Kyiv and its allies say grain and civilian cargo are being hit. Turkey has called on both countries to stop attacks at sea.
