U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, who lost Michigan's Democratic Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, endorsed Republican nominee Mike Rogers on Sunday, the Associated Press and Reuters reported. She announced her support after attending a Detroit church service with Rogers.
AP reported the endorsement came after Stevens was uninvited from a joint event with El-Sayed the same day. Rogers is endorsed by President Donald Trump.
El-Sayed dismissed the endorsement, saying he is focused on issues voters care about. Reuters said the move threatens to deepen divisions in a state viewed as crucial to Democratic hopes of retaking the Senate, where Republicans hold a 53-47 majority.
