A bipartisan group of eight states said Wednesday they had sued OpenAI in state courts across the country, Reuters reports. The attorneys general, including those of Iowa, Kansas and Arizona, filed independently.

The lawsuits claim ChatGPT is designed to be agreeable and engaging to win users' trust, and that it has reinforced delusions, encouraged dangerous behavior and helped users, including teenagers, plan violence. OpenAI had not responded in the summary reports. Axios separately reported the FTC has subpoenaed OpenAI and Anthropic over consumer harms.
