Contacts between Iran and the United States to end their eight-month war are continuing, Tehran said Monday, after days of Iranian talks with Qatari mediators ended with altered proposals but no breakthrough, Reuters reported.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran's seven-step plan, which Trump rejected in September, has been condensed so it could be carried out within two days. It calls for the U.S. to end its blockade of Iranian ports, Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. waiver on Iranian oil sales and cancellation of new sanctions, before talks on other issues, including Iran's nuclear program.

AP reported that President Trump said he had a "very good" call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about Iran. Trump has said there would be no new attack before Tuesday's midterms. China's Xi Jinping told Oman's sultan the region should not become a battleground for great-power rivalry, Reuters reported.
