Ukraine and Russia said their emergency alert apps were hacked overnight, sending false warnings about air raids and chemical and nuclear attacks, Reuters and the Associated Press reported. Ukraine's service was temporarily suspended and restored overnight; Russian officials said the wider public alert system kept working.
The hacks coincided with the expiry of a six-day humanitarian ceasefire in the Russian-held town of Oleshky, brokered through U.S. first lady Melania Trump. Nearly 800 people were evacuated, she said on X. Ukraine's General Staff said Russian forces used the truce to strengthen their positions; Moscow said it assumed Kyiv had done the same.
Ukrainian authorities reported renewed Russian attacks in the Kherson region after the ceasefire ended at midnight, AP reported.
