North Korea test-fired two types of submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles in the waters off its east coast on Wednesday, state media KCNA reported Thursday. It said the test assessed the readiness of its underwater combat systems and had no adverse impact on neighbors.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said it tracked the launches and that one missile came from a vertical launch tube and the other from a torpedo tube. The Washington Post reports it was the North's first underwater-launched missile test in nearly three years. The test followed tactical ballistic missile launches on Monday.
