The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said Thursday that it intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile over the Medina region of western Saudi Arabia, home to Islam's second-holiest city, according to Anadolu Agency and the Associated Press. Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki did not say who fired the missile or what it targeted, and gave no details on damage or casualties.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree denied any attack, writing on X that the group carried out no operation against Saudi territory Thursday and calling the Saudi claim "a shameless and brazen lie," France 24 reported.
The interception follows a week of strikes on Saudi Arabia. Arab News reports that debris from an intercepted Houthi ballistic missile over Riyadh injured one resident Wednesday, after two cruise missiles were downed over the capital Tuesday. The coalition has also accused the Houthis of a Sept. 29 drone attack on an electricity station in Medina.
