Trump Cancels Plan to Livestream Fort Hood Shooter's Execution
Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, will still face a military firing squad, but the Pentagon will not broadcast it after bipartisan criticism.

President Trump said Thursday that the Pentagon will not livestream the firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted of killing 13 people and wounding more than 30 at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009. Trump said "people would rather not watch him die." The execution itself is still planned.
The livestream plan had drawn criticism from both parties and from abroad. AP reports critics warned the images could fuel radicalization. The Guardian reports Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin called the plan "sick," while Republican Sen. John Curtis said it was "not an effective deterrent."
The Guardian also reported that leaders of a church network tied to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had backed a public execution.
