Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever tendered his resignation to King Philippe on Monday after his five-party coalition failed to agree on a 2027 budget, and the king deferred a decision, the Royal Palace said, according to Xinhua and Anadolu Agency. Anadolu, citing broadcaster VRT, said the coalition is trying to address a 10 billion euro ($11 billion) budget shortfall.

VRT reported that the king meets Les Engagés and CD&V leaders on Tuesday, Vooruit and MR on Wednesday and N-VA on Thursday, before seeing De Wever again Friday at 10:30 a.m.

The opposition Flemish liberals of Anders said their eight seats were available to any prime minister willing to cut costs and shrink the state, VRT reported.
