Americans vote Tuesday in midterm elections that will decide control of Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump's term. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats are being contested, Reuters reported. Democrats are widely favored to retake the House but face a greater challenge in the Senate, where Republicans hold a 53-47 majority.

Early voting, in person or by mail, set a record with 57 million votes cast as of Monday afternoon, up from 45 million in all of the 2022 midterms, according to the University of Florida's Election Lab, Reuters reported. Anadolu Agency reported that the first polls close at 6 p.m. Eastern, and that close contests could leave control of one or both chambers unresolved beyond election night.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll completed Monday found 46% of registered voters said they would vote for Democrats in congressional elections, compared with 38% who picked Republicans. Trump, who has held events in 20 states over the past 32 days, according to the White House, said Monday: "We have to vote. If our people vote, we win in a landslide."

In Michigan, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is running against Republican Mike Rogers in a tight Senate race. El-Sayed's campaign said it raised $2.4 million on Sunday after Rep. Haley Stevens, who lost the Democratic primary to him, endorsed Rogers, Reuters reported.
