Democrats gained governorships in Georgia, Iowa, Ohio and Texas, Ballotpedia reported early Wednesday, and NBC News projected that Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford unseated Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo. Ballotpedia said Democrats will hold at least 27 governorships to Republicans' 20, a majority for the first time since 2010.

Amy Acton defeated Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio, and Rob Sand beat Zach Lahn in Iowa.
In New Mexico, Deb Haaland, a member of the Laguna Pueblo and former Interior secretary, became the first Native American woman elected governor, Euronews reported. NBC News said voters in 15 states elected female governors, a record. Ford will be Nevada's first Black governor, NBC said.
