Abortion-rights advocates won ballot measures in Missouri, Nevada and Virginia, the Associated Press reported. Missouri voters defeated Amendment 3, which Ballotpedia said would have repealed the state's constitutional right to reproductive freedom and prohibited abortion and certain medical procedures for transgender minors, with exceptions. Virginia voters approved a constitutional right to reproductive freedom, including abortion before the third trimester, Ballotpedia said, and the AP reported Nevada voters did the same.
Missouri voters also rejected a new congressional map backed by President Trump that had been designed to help Republicans gain a seat, the AP said, while Maryland voters approved an amendment that could clear the way for congressional redistricting.
Voters in Arkansas, Kansas, South Dakota and West Virginia approved measures adding citizenship requirements for voting in state and local elections to their constitutions, according to Ballotpedia. North Carolina and Ohio approved amendments expanding voter ID requirements, including for mail ballots. Voters in Arizona, California and Colorado rejected voter ID amendments.
