U.K. Defense Secretary Wes Streeting on Monday accused Iran of "bare-faced cheek" after Tehran branded the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force "terrorist organizations" and labeled MI6 a "hostile group," Anadolu Agency reported. Iran's move came in response to Britain outlawing support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
"The charge levelled at the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force by Iran doesn't really dignify a response," Streeting said at a news conference in Berlin with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, adding that Iran has a record of "state-sponsored terrorism." He said de-escalation and diplomacy should remain the priority.
Streeting also said Europe faces "a level of threat that we haven't seen since the end of the Cold War" and that Britain would be open to German participation in the GCAP fighter program with Italy and Japan.
