Israel's Central Elections Committee said Wednesday it found no fraud in the Oct. 27 vote, Euronews reported. "The review found no evidence of irregularities that compromised the integrity of the election or affected its results," the committee said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters had claimed, without evidence, that Arab-led parties had "stolen" the election, possibly with foreign help.
Acting director Dean Livne said every complaint was examined "individually and thoroughly" and that the results, set to be certified Wednesday, "accurately reflect the choices voters made at the ballot box." A separate Shin Bet investigation into allegations of foreign interference is ongoing, a committee spokesperson said.
Results showed Netanyahu's religious-nationalist bloc losing its majority, while Arab-led parties made substantial gains. Neither Netanyahu's bloc nor opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot's secured a majority. After two days of consultations, President Isaac Herzog will choose the candidate best positioned to form a coalition; if no one can, Israel would hold a new election early next year, Euronews reported.
